Arup consolidated its Toronto operations into a 60,000sf contemporary office reflecting the organization’s progressive values and collaborative workplace culture. After originally selecting Govan Brown to complete the Phase 1 portion of their office fit-up across floors eight through ten, the Arup team extended our scope of work to include Phase 2 of the project, the eleventh floor, following the successful delivery of the initial three.
The project encompassed an expansive reception and lobby area on the ninth floor featuring a large millwork desk, a high-end wood focal point that embodies the streamlined, custom-built motif continued across all four floors. The intricate woodwork is highlighted particularly through the internal staircase connecting each floor, which features a bespoke perforated wood screen that spans up all four floors. The single, continuous piece of wood uniquely identifies each floor to employees and clients through four distinct etched art pieces.
Each floor is comprised of open office space to promote the firm’s commitment to integrated team dynamics, while the meeting and boardrooms include premium Muraflex fronts to ensure sound-proofing and to maximize AV capability. The floors are equipped with a LAN room and private washrooms as well as four serveries and a kitchen. One particularly unique aspect of the office is the Maker’s Lab on the eighth floor, a space designated for the Arup team to build 3D models. This was an integral feature in propelling the organization at the forefront of innovation.
